Daler-Rowney Art Supplies

By Helen South, About.com

The Dalery-Rowney Company: Daler-Rowney are a UK-based company who produce well-known brands such as the ever-popular Derwent Fine Art pencils, Rexel Five Star pencils, and Aquafine watercolors. They produce professional, hobbyist/student and children's art materials, including paper, brushes, inks, and a range of accessories.
The Dalery-Rowney Website: Daler-Rowney have an excellent website (see the link at right) which includes a full, illustrated product catalogue and a helpful FAQ section. There are no irritating flash intros. Unlike many commercial sites, a contact link is on the front page (not buried within the site) along with a 'home' and 'site map' links, with site and product search facilities. Register for their newsletter and forum access.French and German language versions are also available.
Daler-Rowney Customer Support (Email): I've just now placed a query with their customer support section. I'll let you know the results as soon as they respond.
Daler-Rowney Products - Derwent Pencils: Derwent Fine Art pencils have long been family favorites, due to their ready availability and moderate price. They are hard-wearing pencils which sharpen well, but the durability does come at the cost of pigment density, with some colors a little chalky for my taste. As you become more serious about your pencil art, you may want to supplement your Derwents with some pigment-dense primary and secondary colors.
Daler-Rowney Products -Soft Pastels: Daler-Rowney claim to be acknowledged world masters of artist's pastel manufacture. Quite a claim, given the quality of the products from Sennelier and Henri Roche. Rowney Soft Pastels are available in 194 tints, retailed loose, in boxes of 12, and a beautiful wooden boxed set.
